Preparation time:

Preparation time: 25 minutes
Cooking time: 15 minutes
Total time: 40 minutes
Ingredients:
For the garnish:
Apples – 3 medium (peeled and grated)
Sugar – 2 tablespoons
Cinnamon – to taste (about 1/2 teaspoon)
Butter – 1 tablespoon
For the dough:
Flour – 270-280 grams (about 2 1/4 cups)
Baking powder – 1/2 teaspoon
Butter – 100 grams (7 tablespoons, cold)
Yogurt (or sour cream) – 200 grams (3/4 cup)
Egg – 1 large
Sugar – 2 tablespoons
Vanilla – 1/2 teaspoon
Salt – a pinch
For the finish:
Icing sugar – for sprinkling
Instructions:
To prepare the apple filling:
Peel and grate the apples.
Melt the butter in a pan, then add the grated apples, sugar, and cinnamon.
Cook over medium heat for about 5 to 7 minutes, until the apples are softened and the liquid has evaporated. Allow the mixture to cool.
Make the dough:
In a bowl, mix together the flour (270-280g), baking powder, and a pinch of salt.
Add the cold butter (100g) to the flour mixture and work the butter into the flour with your fingers until it forms a crumbly consistency.
In a separate bowl, whisk together the yogurt (or sour cream), egg, sugar, and vanilla.
Pour the wet mixture into the dry ingredients and stir until a soft dough forms. If it is too sticky, add a little more flour.
Form the rolls:
Divide the dough into 4 equal parts.
Spread each portion in a thin layer (about 6mm thick) on a floured surface.
Cut each rolled out piece into 8 triangular segments (like pizza slices).
Place a teaspoon of cooled apple filling on the wide end of each triangle.
Roll the dough from the wide end to the narrow end, forming crescent-shaped rolls.
Bake the rolls:
Preheat the oven to 180°C.
Place the rolls on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
Bake for about 15 minutes or until the rolls are golden brown and cooked through.
Finishing and serving:
Let the rolls cool slightly and sprinkle with powdered sugar before serving.
Serving suggestions:
Serve the apple rolls warm with a cup of coffee or tea.
Add a drizzle of caramel or honey for extra sweetness.
Serve with a dollop of whipped cream or vanilla ice cream for a delicious dessert.
Cooking tips:
Use cold butter in the dough to create a crumbly texture that makes for a tender, flaky roll.
If you want a bolder flavor, replace the yogurt with sour cream.
For a fun twist, add chopped nuts like walnuts or pecans to the apple filling for extra crunch.
Nutritional Benefits:
Apples provide fiber and natural sweetness while also being rich in vitamins and antioxidants.
Yogurt or sour cream makes for a smooth dough and provides probiotics for healthy gut flora.
