Ingredients
For the Dough:
2 cups cake flour
2 teaspoons baking powder
½ teaspoon salt
2 tablespoons sugar
2 tablespoons butter, softened
1 large egg
½ cup milk (plus more if needed)
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
For the Syrup:
1½ cups sugar
1 cup water
½ teaspoon ground cinnamon
1 teaspoon lemon juice
Instructions
1. Make the Syrup First:
In a saucepan, combine the sugar, water, cinnamon, and lemon juice.

Stir over medium heat until the sugar completely dissolves.
Bring to a gentle boil and let it simmer for 5-7 minutes until slightly thickened.
Turn off the heat and let it cool completely. (You want the syrup cool when you dip the hot donut holes later — that gives the best texture!)
