Preparation
Butter a 9 x 13-inch baking dish and arrange the bread slices in a single layer.
Spread the sliced strawberries evenly over the bread. In a large bowl, whisk together the eggs, milk, heavy cream, sugar, vanilla extract, cinnamon, and salt until well blended.
Pour the egg mixture over the bread and strawberries, making sure all of the bread is coated.
Cover the dish with plastic wrap and let it sit in the refrigerator overnight, allowing the bread to absorb the custard.
Preheat your oven to 175°C (350°F).
Remove the dish from the refrigerator and let it sit at room temperature for about 30 minutes.
Bake in the preheated oven for 45 to 50 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and the custard is set.
Let the French toast cool slightly before serving.
Variations and Tips
For a tropical twist, replace the strawberries with banana slices and add a handful of shredded coconut to the custard. If you prefer a nutty flavor, sprinkle the top with chopped pecans or almonds before baking. For a dairy-free version, replace the milk and cream with almond milk or coconut milk. You can also experiment with different types of bread, such as brioche or challah, for a richer texture.
