Prepare a baking tray (35 x 25 cm), spray with oil or butter/margarine to grease the tray, flour for the tray and icing sugar to dust the finished cake.
Mix the egg yolks with the icing sugar and vanilla sugar until thickly foamed.
Fold in the lemon zest. Mix the flour with the baking powder and sieve.
Mix the oil, milk and flour into the egg yolk mixture in batches and alternately.
Beat the egg whites until stiff with a pinch of salt and then fold them into the mixture.
Place the dough on the greased and floured baking sheet and level it with a spatula.
Wash the strawberries, drain them, cut them smaller and arrange them next to each other on the dough.
Bake at 180°C for about 20-30 minutes until golden brown. But let your experience with your oven be your guide.
