Croissant Donuts

Ingredients:
For the Donuts:
1 large egg
1 teaspoon vanilla sugar (or 1 teaspoon vanilla extract)
Zest of 1 orange (for a fresh citrus flavor)
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 tablespoon granulated sugar
1 tablespoon vegetable oil (or melted butter)
8 g (about 2 1/4 teaspoons) active dry yeast
7 g (approximately 1 3/4 teaspoons) baking powder
150 ml (5.3 oz) warm water (about 110°F or 43°C)
100 g (0.7 cup) semolina flour (for texture)
250 g (1.7 cups) all-purpose flour (can substitute with bread flour for a chewier donut)
For Frying and Coating:
Cooking oil (such as vegetable or canola oil, enough for deep frying)
Granulated sugar (for sprinkling over the finished donuts)
Optional: Cinnamon sugar (mix sugar with ground cinnamon for a twist)
