Country’s White Bread

Instructions
Prepare the Dough
Activate Yeast – In a small bowl, combine warm water and sugar. Stir in active dry yeast and let it sit for 5-10 minutes until frothy.
Mix Ingredients – In a large mixing bowl, blend 5 cups of flour and salt. Add yeast mixture and softened butter, stirring until a dough forms.
Knead the Dough – Transfer dough to a lightly floured surface. Knead for 8-10 minutes, adding more flour as needed, until the texture is smooth and elastic.
First Rise – Place dough in a greased bowl, turning once to coat. Cover with a kitchen towel or plastic wrap, and let rise in a warm spot for 1 to 1 1/2 hours, or until doubled in size.
Shape and Bake
Prepare Loaf Pans – Grease two 9×5-inch loaf pans.
Shape the Dough – Punch down the risen dough and divide in half. Shape each portion into a loaf and place in prepared pans.
Second Rise – Cover pans with a kitchen towel and let dough rise for 30-45 minutes, until slightly above the rim.
Preheat Oven – Set your oven to 375°F (190°C).
Bake – Bake loaves for 25-30 minutes, until golden brown and hollow-sounding when tapped.
Cool – Remove from oven and cool in pans for 10 minutes. Transfer to a wire rack to cool completely before slicing.
Cook’s Notes & Tips
Water Temperature: Ensure the water is warm but not too hot, as overheating can kill the yeast.
Kneading: Proper kneading develops gluten, giving your bread its soft texture. The dough should be smooth and slightly tacky.
Check for Doneness: Tap the bottom of the loaf—if it sounds hollow, it’s ready!
Enjoy the aroma of freshly baked bread filling your kitchen and the delight of homemade goodness in every bite! 🍞
