Carnival Rolled Donuts: They’re irresistible!

Activate yeast:

In a bowl, mix warm milk with 1 tsp sugar and the yeast. Let it sit for 10 minutes until foamy.

Make the dough:

In a large bowl, mix flour, remaining sugar, salt.

Add egg, vanilla, melted butter, and yeast mixture.

Knead until you get a smooth, elastic dough (about 8–10 minutes). Cover and let rise 1 hour.

Roll & fill:

Roll out the dough into a rectangle (~0.5 cm thick).

Spread a thin layer of jam or filling of choice.

Roll the dough up tightly (like a jelly roll) and cut into 3–4 cm slices.

Second rise:

Place slices cut-side up on a parchment-lined tray. Cover and let rise 30–45 minutes.

Bake or Fry:

To bake: Preheat oven to 180°C (350°F). Bake for 15–20 minutes until golden.

To fry: Heat oil to 170°C and fry each roll until golden brown on both sides. Drain on paper towels.

Coat:

Brush warm donuts with melted butter and roll in sugar (or cinnamon sugar).

🍓 Optional Fillings:
Vanilla custard or Bavarian cream

Raspberry jam

Nutella or chocolate spread

Lemon curd

🎉 Tips:
Serve warm for the best texture and flavor.

Dust with powdered sugar just before serving for a classic carnival look.
