🥓🍄 Bread Dumplings with Mushroom Cream Sauce and Bacon
(Serves 4)
✅ Ingredients
For the Bread Dumplings (Semmelknödel):
6–8 stale white bread rolls or 250 g crusty bread, cubed
1 cup (250 ml) milk, warm
2 eggs
1 small onion, finely chopped
2 tbsp butter
2 tbsp parsley, finely chopped
Salt & pepper to taste
Pinch of nutmeg (optional)
2 tbsp flour (if needed for binding)
For the Mushroom Cream Sauce with Bacon:
200 g (7 oz) bacon, diced
1 tbsp butter or oil
1 small onion or shallot, finely chopped
300–400 g (10–14 oz) mixed mushrooms (cremini, button, etc.), sliced
1 garlic clove, minced
200 ml (¾ cup) heavy cream
100 ml (⅓ cup) broth or white wine (optional)
Salt & pepper to taste
Fresh thyme or parsley for garnish
