Cheese hash brown and mashed potato gratin

📝 Ingredients:
For the mashed potatoes:

3 large potatoes, peeled and chopped

2 tbsp butter

1/3 cup milk or cream (adjust for creaminess)

Salt and pepper to taste

For the gratin:

2 cups frozen hash browns (thawed)

1 ½ cups shredded cheese (cheddar, Gruyère, or a mix)

1 cup sour cream or crème fraîche

1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese

1/2 small onion, finely chopped (optional)

1 clove garlic, minced

1 tsp dried thyme or rosemary (optional)

Salt and pepper to taste

2 tbsp butter (for dotting and greasing)

Breadcrumbs (optional topping)
