Ingredients (for about 20 empanadas):
500g flour (type 405 or 550)
1 tsp salt
100g butter (cold, cubed)
1 egg
150ml water (cold, maybe a little more or less)
(Optional: 1 tbsp white wine vinegar – makes the dough more tender)
🔧 Preparation:
Mix flour and salt:
In a large bowl, combine flour and salt.
Incorporate butter:
Add the cold butter cubes and rub them into the flour with your fingers or a pastry blender until the mixture resembles coarse sand.
Add egg, water, and vinegar:
Add the egg, water (a little at a time), and optionally the vinegar. Quickly knead everything into a smooth, pliable dough. If the dough is too dry, add more water a tablespoon at a time.
