🇹🇷 Turkish-Style Chickpeas (Nohut Yemeği)

100–150g diced beef or lamb, browned separately and simmered with the stew

🍲 Instructions:
Sauté the base:
Heat olive oil in a medium pot over medium heat. Add the chopped onions and sauté until soft and golden, about 5–7 minutes.

Add tomato paste & spices:
Stir in the tomato paste, grated tomato, cumin, paprika, and pepper flakes. Cook for 2–3 minutes until fragrant and well mixed.

Add chickpeas & liquid:
Add the cooked chickpeas and stir to coat them in the sauce. Pour in the water or broth. Season with salt and pepper.

Simmer:
Let it simmer gently, uncovered, for about 20–25 minutes, until flavors meld and sauce thickens. Add more water if needed to adjust consistency.

Taste & serve:
Adjust seasoning. Serve hot!

🍚 What to Serve With It:
Rice Pilav (Şehriyeli Pilav) – classic Turkish-style rice with orzo for nutty depth.

Bulgur Pilavı – for a more earthy, fiber-rich option.

Cacık – a cold yogurt-cucumber-garlic dip (like tzatziki) for a cooling side.

Pickled vegetables (Turşu) – crunchy and tangy to cut through the richness.

Fresh bread or pide – to soak up the sauce!
